It’s Presidents’ Day Weekend here in lovely Naples, Florida! (And yes, it’s Presidents’ Day, not President’s Day. The day does not belong to just one president, but all of the presidents of these great United States. Don’t worry — I looked it up on the internet, the enormous bathroom wall of our culture on which anyone can write anything at any time. However, credible sources confirm this is so.) The weather is glorious, special events abound, and Presidents’ Day weekend 2018 is here!
Celebrate Presidents’ Day!
Let’s chat about Presidents’ Day celebrations. In Southwest Florida, we enjoy a patriotic and celebratory atmosphere all year long. Our wonderful region celebrates and embodies all of the things that make life in the United States so great. Many of our residents have served their country in the armed forces. Moreover, our local residents remain consistently and fiercely loyal to their country and its leaders.
So, how do you celebrate Presidents’ Day? Shopping all the feel-good deals, hitting the beach, fishing the Ten Thousand Islands, watching the Olympics, or perhaps throwing a backyard BBQ for your friends? Maybe you’re going to head into the Everglades to explore untouched areas of Florida and experience what life was like in the south land 100 years ago when Woodrow Wilson was in office. Or perhaps better yet, you’ll share all of the reasons Teddy Roosevelt or Harry S Truman (the S stands for nothing, by the way) or George H. W. Bush was your favorite president, and get into a friendly discussion about what constitutes a great world leader. (You may or may not be aware of this, but friendly discussions regarding political leaders ARE actually possible in our current cultural climate.)
