It’s the most wonderful time of the year! At Decibels Audiology and Hearing Aid Center, we live for the Christmas season (and all the Christmas sounds). From the day after Thanksgiving to January 1, it is all things festive, fun, excitement, and joy. What does your holiday season look like this year? How do you celebrate and enjoy these weeks filled with preparations, traditions, travels, times with family, and parties?
Christmas Sounds
Have you ever considered the sounds of Christmas? This season is filled with noise! Some of it is certainly dramatic — family members disagreeing about politics, little ones (stuffed to the brim with sugary goodness) melting down loudly in the middle of Target’s home section, and babies screaming about being held by a creepy rotund old man with a beard. However, most of the sounds of the season are uniquely beautiful. Consider the following Christmas sounds:
- Christmas Music. How amazing are Mariah Carey’s “Merry Christmas” album, “Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas,” “Christmas” by Michael Buble, and — of course — ALL the Amy Grant Christmas albums? Christmas tradition calls for the thorough playing of all of these albums — and more.
- Church Choirs at Christmas. The Southwest Florida area is replete with lovely church choral music, particularly at Christmas. We are blessed to have some of the most amazing musicians who put on fantastic programs at Christmas.
- Christmas Morning Coffee Sounds. After a night of wrapping presents, planning surprises, and staying up late on Christmas Eve, there is NOTHING like the sound of hot coffee brewing in the coffee maker on Christmas morning.
- Happy Grandchildren Squeals. The magical sounds of Christmas start and end with the children in our lives. Their joy and excitement on Christmas morning is what we live for! Tearing into presents, shrieks of delight, and dreams coming true! These are the Christmas sounds that beat all others.
The Christmas Sounds YOU Hear
Of all of these lovely sounds that exist around this magical season of Christmas, which ones do you hear? Which ones are fuzzy, and which ones are clear? Maybe you can hear them, but you can’t understand them. Whatever the case may be, these Christmas sounds are VITAL to making memories, upholding traditions, and experiencing the full joy this season offers us.
No, we can’t remove the sounds that drive you crazy. The whining, the nagging, the panicked stress-filled words, the traffic-induced yelling, or the dramatic, booze-induced disagreements around the table. BUT we can make certain you don’t miss out on the magical moments that make all the other stuff worthwhile. You can’t do it over again, so make sure you capture every moment this holiday season.
We wish you a happy and sound-filled Christmas! We at Decibels Audiology and Hearing Aid Center want you to experience the noise this season brings. What are you waiting for? Don’t miss out on Christmas sounds this year! With all that you have to be thankful for, with all that awaits over the next few weeks, please don’t let your hearing health stop you from taking it all in.
